The vaulted ceiling and dome of Antwerp Central Station's waiting room.
There are three things I was told to look out for while in Belgium: chocolate, Belgian fries, and beer (& Smurfs if you include cartoon lore). For those contemplating a trip to Europe's largest port city, add a fourth item to the list: Antwerp's Central Train Station. Upon my train's arrival to Antwerp, the station immediately made me feel like I'd arrived in a historic European capitol. The station is impressive enough that Newsweek magazine voted it the fourth best train station in the world.

A week into the European leg of my journeys and the novelty isn't remotely close to wearing off. I'm having a hard time concentrating on photography when mundane things like a short trip to the grocery store takes hours because everything is different, new and interesting. The depth and breadth of selection, merely in the supermarket yogurt aisle, is beyond description. The closest analogy would be the potato chip aisle in an American supermarket chain. And thank the good lord Ganesh for wasteful European agricultural subsidies. It helps me afford vegetables and fruits whose prices have been artificially lowered and therefore, tastes more delicious.
