A young Belgian woman looks out of her boat at the floating vegetable market.

At some point, the floating vegetable market in Srinagar became a not-to-be-missed tourist attraction. By 6am hordes of non-Kashmiris, sitting in cushioned boats, line the the banks of the trading "floor" hoping not to get their hands dangerously close to the frantic legume exchange. Unlike other notable floating markets around the world, this market continues to be authentic. Tourist shwag salesmen are still limited although I don't see that remaining unchanged forever.

Welcome back for another round of archived photos (on the weekends). If you're just tuning in, I've reserved the past several weekends to publish "lost" Kashmir photos I took this past summer.

The feet of female Indian tourists at the floating vegetable market.

Contrary to assumptions of grave bodily harm, Indian nationals make up a large portion of tourism in Srinagar. It seems Kashmiris, particularly those in the tourist Industry, tolerate most Indians so long as they bring their wallets to Srinagar. Kashmiri sentiment to the presence of India's military is a bit more aggressive.
