A boy and his goat put the finishing touches on homework before the start of school.

Occasionally, the goat attempted to chew the sheets of paper in the boy's notebook. I'm curious if the teacher's heard the same excuse a million times before, however, "the goat ate my homework" may actually be a legitimate excuse in this part of the world.

I looked around. There wasn't an adult in sight for at least the 5 minutes I was hovering around the area. Often in the developing world, there's little worry about children's safety like there is in the West. Kids walk within inches of deadly roadside traffic and, at times, must battle rabid stray dogs on their way to and from school. If I am able to have a child, I'll provide a similar challenging environment instead of the sheltered lives our kids in the West are brought up with.
